In 1889, the mayor of Joliet envisioned a grand castle overlooking the rolling hills and the beautiful waterfront. For one thing, he pictured a mansion with verandas, stone pillars, and a grand entrance surrounded by tropical palms, shrubs, and thousands of flowers. In his vision, the gardens would include massive trees and extraordinary water fountains. Plus, an elegant gazebo surrounded by a sparkling creekside setting would be the focal point.

As you enter, you would see extravagant chandeliers, exquisite large windows, and romantic, floor-length mirrors. For him, these details made for a truly wonderful and unique destination where he could hear the birds sing as he enjoyed the sunsets.
